How is property tax calculated?

Property tax is calculated by dividing the assessed value of your property by 1,000, then multiplying this number by the applicable tax rate. For instance, the following formula would apply if your residential property is assessed at $450,000.00:

  • 450,000/1,000 = 450
  • 450 x 9.52 = 4,284.00
  • Property Tax = $4,284.00

If that same property was a commercial property, only the multiplier/tax rate changes:

  • 450,000/1,000 = 450
  • 450 x 13.20 = 5,940.00
  • Property Tax = $5,940.00
