Trees

The Forestry Division is responsible for the systematized management of Newport’s community forest. The program includes the pruning, removal, planting, stump grinding, fertilization and pest management of public trees. Staff maintains of a computerized inventory of Newport's trees and resident work requests.

The goal of the program is to establish a fully stocked, healthy community forest of both public and private trees that is diverse in age and species. Newport offers subsidized tree planting programs for as low as $70 to residents interested in sponsoring street trees in the public right-of-way, or setback up to 20' on private property.

Commit to caring for a young tree, and the City of Newport will provide one at wholesale cost and plant it for you! (Tree must be situated within 20 feet of a public roadside.)
